At Milnes Chevrolet, we know that handing the keys to your teen driver can be a nerve-wracking experience. That’s why we’re excited to offer Chevy’s Teen Driver Technology-a smart safety system designed to help your new driver build confidence and responsibility behind the wheel.
What is Teen Driver?
Teen Driver is a suite of safety features that activates automatically when a Teen Driver-designated key fob is used. It helps promote safe driving habits by limiting distractions, encouraging seat belt use, and providing parents with detailed driving reports.
Key Benefits & Features
Audio Volume Limit – Keeps music volume in check to reduce distractions.
Speed Warning – Choose a warning threshold between 40-75 MPH to alert your teen if they’re driving too fast.
Speed Limiter – Cap the vehicle’s top speed at 85 MPH to prevent dangerous speeding.
Buckle to Drive – Prevents shifting into gear for 20 seconds if the driver or front passenger isn’t buckled up (if equipped).
Automatic Safety Features – Systems like Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are automatically activated.
Always-On Safety Systems
When Teen Driver is active, these features are turned on (if equipped):
Antilock Brake System (ABS)
Automatic Emergency Braking
Blind Zone Steering Assist
Daytime Running Lamps
Front/Rear Park Assist
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Keep Assist
Rear Pedestrian Alert
Stability Control and Traction Control
Note: Super Cruise and the standard Speed Warning feature are disabled during Teen Driver use.
In-Vehicle Report Card
One of the most powerful features of Teen Driver is the in-vehicle report card. This tool tracks driving data like distance traveled, overspeed warnings, and system activations-allowing parents to review performance and coach safe habits.
Only one report card is stored per vehicle, regardless of how many Teen Driver keys are registered.
The system records up to 40,000 miles and 1,000 driving events before needing a reset.
How to Set It Up
Select “Teen Driver” in the vehicle’s Settings menu.
Create a four-digit PIN.
Register a key or fob as the Teen Driver key.
Configure settings such as speed warnings, volume limits, and more.
Pro Tip: If your vehicle has Keyless Open and Start, Teen Driver settings will only activate if only the Teen Driver key is present at startup.
Why It Matters
With Teen Driver, you’re not just giving your child the keys-you’re giving them a safer, more structured driving experience. From built-in seatbelt reminders to real-time performance reports, it’s like having a co-pilot on board, even when you’re not in the car.
